CHAPEL HILL — The Cascade Lady Champions just couldn’t solve Forrest’s Taylor Moreland in the District 7-AA opener on Monday night.
Moreland kept the base paths clear and tossed a no-hitter as Forrest beat Cascade, 7-0.
Moreland’s counterpart, Brianna Horn, from Cascade only gave up one singles to the Lady Rockets, but walked nine batters that Forrest took advantage of in the shutout win over the Lady Champs.
Forrest plated two runs in the first, third and fourth innings before a seventh run scored in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Horn did strike out three batters in her 4 1/3 innings in the circle.
Katelyn Lambert took over and pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up just one run.
Cascade stays alive in the tournament and faces Grundy County, who Community defeated, 16-0, in three innings on Monday night.
In two previous regular season meetings against Grundy County, Cascade claimed a 14-6 and a 10-0 win over the Lady Yellowjackets.
Cascade will face Grundy on Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. in an elimination game.
